Little Bit 's Name

Names.  I have daydreamed over finding the perfect names for my future children since I was little.  I probably take the responsibility too seriously.  Thankfully Norman is patient with me and understands. :)

So why Malcolm?  We like how it sounds with Harebottle.  It is a strong Scottish name (I have many clans in my heritage and Norman probably does, too*) that isn't super common nowadays.  It also flows with Norman and Declan.  It doesn't end in “N” but at least it is close.  We also enjoy listening to Malcolm Gladwell and his storytelling.  We wanted to give our son a name that more people could pronounce and spell than Declan, too.

Julian.  Julian is the name of Norman's grandpa.  Norman's mom is named Julie after him.  Each of our children have a middle name from their grandparent's first name (ok, it helps Norman and I are both named after a parent).

Blakely.  This is actually an adaptation of the surname, Bleakly, that has been in the McSherry family for over 100 years.  It has been passed down as a middle name throughout the generations, the most recent being my grandpa McSherry.  Another neat part is the “Lee” sound on the end. My grandma Rose’s middle name is Lee.

Savannah isn't the only one with two middle names now. :).

Yes, it is a big name for a little guy but judging by how much he has been eating...he will grow into it quickly!

*One of the clans of my heritage is the Campbell of Argyll.  They lived just over the English border in Scotland and used to come down from the mountains and raid the English.  The town and castle of Harbottle is in northern England, just south of the border.  They used to go and steal Scottish wives per family legend.  Apparently Norman and I continued the family tradition. ;)

Norman IV is named after many generations of Harebottle men.  :) The original Norman Harold (Norman IV's great grandpa) was named after his dad and uncle. :)
